Waxing aftercare

Avoiding Heat:
After waxing, avoid washing the area for at least 2 hours to allow your skin to breathe and recover. For the first 24 hours, skip hot baths or showers. Instead, opt for a lukewarm shower with a non-scented cleanser or body wash. Afterward, gently pat the area dry. This helps your skin stabilize and prevents over-sensitivity or reactions to hot water and products.

The same goes for saunas, steam rooms, and swimming pools, as these can increase the risk of infection due to open pores. You can resume these activities 24 hours after waxing.

Avoid Touching:
To reduce the risk of irritation or infection, avoid touching the waxed area with unwashed hands.

Moisturising:
After waxing, apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser to soothe your skin. Recommended products include:

  • E45 Cream

  • Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion

  • Dermalogica Calm Water Gel

Exfoliating:
Wait 48 hours before exfoliating to allow your skin time to recover. Exfoliating too soon can increase sensitivity and the risk of irritation, redness, or infection. After 48 hours, gentle exfoliation will help prevent ingrown hairs and maintain smooth skin.

Wearing Loose Clothing:
Continue wearing loose-fitting clothing after waxing to help prevent ingrown hairs as your hair begins to grow back. Soft fabrics like cotton and bamboo are gentler on the skin and can further aid in preventing irritation. Avoid sleeping with clothing on the waxed area to allow your skin to breathe, which helps reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.

Avoiding Strenuous Activity:
Refrain from strenuous activity for the first 24 hours after waxing. Physical exertion can irritate the skin, increase the risk of infection, and contribute to ingrown hairs. Since waxing removes hair from the root, it creates "micro-wounds" in the skin, making it more sensitive to sweat and bacteria. Your skin needs time to heal, so it's important to give it that opportunity.

Cold Compress:
If you have sensitive skin, apply a cold compress after waxing to reduce inflammation, irritation, and the appearance of red bumps.

  • Calms skin: Soothes inflamed skin.

  • Reduces pain: Numbs the area to alleviate discomfort.

  • Minimises redness: Helps reduce the visibility of red bumps.

For added relief, consider taking an antihistamine before and a few hours after your appointment to calm any redness or irritation.

Avoiding Scented Products:
Avoid using scented products on the waxed area, as fragrances can irritate the skin and increase the risk of ingrown hairs. This includes products like deodorants, body sprays, scented oils, moisturisers, and perfumes, all of which can cause irritation or allergic reactions.
